The Seaside Maiden

In the vast lush lands of Ireland, many fables and folklore have been created from the country's unique culture. Stories of three-headed creatures, wise salmon, dragons, and seals who can turn into humans and walk amongst the Irish villages. For this project, I created a children’s book about Irish Mythology. I created a cohesive story starring a selkie for young children to learn about Irish Mythology and hopefully get inspired to learn about other mythologies. On a foggy day, a human named Orla finds a woman on the beach weeping. Once Orla asks the woman what is wrong, the woman reveals that her name is Siobhan and she is a selkie who has lost her pelt thus unable to turn back into a seal and to go home in the ocean. With a good heart, Orla decides to help the selkie find her pelt. The two women must journey across the beautiful country, encountering many mythical creatures legends, and deities who lead them to find the missing pelt.
